About our school

Karangi Public School is situated on the North Coast of N.S.W., nine kilometres west of Coffs Harbour in the Orara Valley. The School provides a happy, supportive atmosphere characterised by parent participation in classroom learning programs, transportation of students and fundraising for school resources and provides an education program centred on building each child's self esteem and self confidence. Classroom programs are tailored to the individual needs of each child.

Our vision is to be a dynamic school promoting integrity, confidence, lifelong learning and the attainment of excellence. Our school motto "Truthful and Trustworthy" highlights the importance of values in our school. The school provides a caring, supportive atmosphere characterised by quality educational programs, strong commitment to student wellbeing and community involvement. The development of a sense of community encompasses the unity felt by students, the teamwork of the staff and the development of a strong feeling within the parent body and community that the school is a safe, welcoming and caring place. Our core values are based on respect, enabling students to achieve high standards of learning and to develop self-confidence, a high self-esteem and a commitment to personal excellence based on a positive set of values.

Our 2015-2017 School plan focuses on 3 strategic directions of Student, Teacher and Community Wellbeing, Student Engagement and Evidence Based Teaching and Feedback. Our school vision aims to provide all students with access to high quality schooling, promote community engagement and create confident dynamic students through developing excellent teachers, delivering high quality and innovative teaching and engaging parents/caregivers and in their children's education. 'Learning for Sustainability - Learning for the Future' forms an integral part of our vision and enables teachers and community members to connect children with the natural world through programs including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, and projects both inside and outside the classroom. Karangi Public School has a strong focus on Live Life Well and Well Being programs including Restorative Practice, resilience and peer support.

The school's physical location has allowed some unique features to be developed, including creative school grounds, inclusive of outdoor learning spaces. Children at Karangi Public School work in multi-aged classrooms and programs are designed to enhance individual development. We offer excellent teaching, learning and wellbeing programs throughout the school, with a staff committed to their own continued growth as educators through ongoing Professional Learning and professional collaboration. Literacy and Numeracy development are the focus of all classroom programs and teachers are supported with extensive professional learning in all curriculum areas. Karangi Public School is proud of its achievements in preparing our students as future global citizens and leaders. As part of the school program we offer Environmental Education, Music, Visual Arts and Sport. Students with identified needs are well catered for through the development of Individualised Education Plans. Students have access to the latest technology. The use of technology as a tool for both teaching and learning is integrated into classroom programs.

Karangi Public School is a proud member of the Orara Valley Learning Community. The seven schools work closely to plan professional learning for the teachers, sporting and enrichment days for the students. These activities allow students to experience being part of a larger learning community.
