Karangi Public School was successful in gaining acceptance into the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The main focus is to deliver pleasurable food education to our students. This goal will involve and engage students, staff and our school community. Students will learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share delicious fresh food, working in a beautiful productive vegetable garden, herb garden and orchard and a student friendly kitchen and outdoor dining space.
The school and its community were successful in gaining a grant from ETC to support the establishment of an covered outdoor kitchen including 2 barbecues with ovens and stainless steel food preparation benches for all students to use.
The garden has been a whole school and community project establishing pods of vegetables, herb gardens, compost bins, worm farms, and a fruit orchard.
These are exciting times and rely heavily on community support to establish and maintain a fantastic program. If you would like to find out more information on how you can help please contact the school on 02 6653 8284 or email karangi-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
